Shri Dinesh Singh (19 July  1925-30  November 1995) is remembered as one of India's distinguished statesmen, an influential parliamentarian, accomplished diplomat and thoughtful public intellectual whose career blended domestic governance with international leadership. Trained early in the craft of diplomacy though close association with the architects of India's foreign policy, he served first as Private Secretary and later as deputy Minister in Ministry of External Affaris under Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He also worked in the foreign office during Lal Bahadur Shastri's tenure, experiences that gave him rare insight into the strategic foundations of India's external relations. Elected to Parliament in 1957, he built a long and sustained legislative career : Member of Lok Sabha from Banda (1957) and Salon (1962), serving as Vice Finance Minister in both terms, elected from Pratapgarh (1967, 1971, 1984, 1989) with major cabiner responsibilties as Minister of Commerce (1967), Minister of External Affairs (1969), Minister of Industrial Development (1971), and Minister of Water Resources (1984), besides serving as Member of Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh (1978) and later from Haryana (1991), during which he again held the Cabinet Foreign Minister's charge. Internationally, his stature was reflected in his persidency of the Second UNCTAD Summit in 1968 and he consistently advocated  the idea of Asian cooperation while also holding leadership roles associated with SAARC and serving on boards of governors on multiple occasions. Equally respected for his intellectual contributions, he served  as  Editor-in-Chief of the weekly Roun
